President Trump voiced optimism Thursday night that a trade deal could be reached with China after tense relations with Beijing caused another tumultuous day in the stock market.
Trump cited a statement that allegedly came from the Asian superpower about progress with the trade talks — but it was not clear where exactly the remarks originated.
“Statement from China: ‘The teams of both sides are now having smooth communications and good cooperation with each other. We are full of confidence that an agreement can be reached within the next 90 days.’ I agree!” Trump tweeted.
The positive message from Trump came amid the arrest of an executive of a Chinese telecom company in Canada.
