Washington State Ferries Partners with ABB for Advanced Hybrid Electric Propulsion Technology
|ABB has been awarded a prestigious contract by Washington State Ferries to serve as the propulsion single source vendor for its innovative new fleet of hybrid electric ferries. This project represents a significant milestone in the advancement of sustainable maritime transportation in the United States and beyond, positioning ABB as a key player in the creation and deployment of five new vessels.
As the PSSV, ABB will provide comprehensive hybrid electric propulsion systems, featuring the advanced Onboard DC Grid power distribution solution, energy storage systems, sophisticated energy management, and integrated marine automation. This cutting-edge propulsion package is engineered to optimize operational efficiency, reduce emissions, and deliver reliable performance for the new ferries.
In addition to supplying the propulsion systems, ABB will offer extensive design and engineering support, collaborating closely with WSF to ensure the seamless integration of hybrid electric technology into the new vessels.
